A caution about beginner guitar lessons online
When you start out learning to play guitar with online lessons, it is very easy and convenient to have a go at some of all the free lessons available at places like YouTube. You can have a look at some of these videos at my learn guitar online Squidoo lense, by the way.Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong about that. I suppose most of us started by picking up tips and tricks here and there. However there are some potential downsides involved by going this free route.
If you watch a number of these videos, you may see that some of these folks are actually not very good players - not to mention teachers - themselves. I should add that some are actually quite good. Also, let's forget about the production for now - that's really not important. Learning guitar online is about the quality of the content!
And this is exactly my point - my beginner guitar advice of today.
When you wish to learn something, wouldn't you rather learn from someone who A. Actually can teach, and B. Who really knows the subject he or she attempts to teach you?
Again, I'm not saying all these free guitar lessons are low quality - far from it. What I'm saying is this: Being a beginner, it is sometimes hard to distinguish the good from the not so good.
And picking up bad habits just because something looks cool or is free, may not be the smartest beginner guitar advice after all. At least consult with someone before you take in just anything that is being presented - online or offline.
Happy picking!
